Virtuous Virtues
Posted by DrenchedPryo at 6:57 PM 0 commentsDecember 3rd, 2009 my friend Dieter and I were going from our first period class, Media 3, to our next class British Literature. When we got into the room there were a list of five virtues on the board. This intrigued me because our teacher, Mrs. Gonzalez, usually only puts things one the board if they are relevant to the piece of literature we are reading. After further explination I learned these virtues were those of the book's main character.
We started out the class by trying to define what a virtue was and some examples of them. I named a couple such as patience and modesty. I also unknowingly mentioned honesty(because i mumble modesty kinda morphed into honesty :). When no one else could think of anything else she passed out a sheet filled with virtues. This was the hard part. I looked over the entire sheet scrolling my eyes as fast as I could just to try and find at least 5 virtues that best described me, as stated by the directions of the paper and teacher. Constantly repeating each column struggling to find the right ones. As it is alone I hate describing myself and pointing out some, if any, good details about myself. I finally settled on the five, but was struggling not to erase the entire page and start over. My modesty was tested and I failed to keep it. The class ended with me now only 4 virtues under my belt.
Whats beneficial about failure?
Posted by DrenchedPryo at 6:18 PM 0 commentsThrough failure we gain many things. It encourages us to look for solutions that we wouldn't have normally been looking for. It gives us experience, in a sense that we won't do such a thing again because we know the result. Failure encourages the strong and discourages the weak(if you can't deal with failure your aren't going to survive). It encourages improvement and planning, (ex next time I won't mix the two highly reactive compounds without proper safety equipment). Finally, failure reveals your weakness. You can take what you have learned and use it to better yourself as a person.
Thomas Edison failed more than 1,000 times when trying to create the light bulb.
When asked about it, Edison allegedly said, "I have not failed 1,000 times. I have
successfully discovered 1,000 ways to NOT make a light bulb." Nobody is born perfect
and knowing all we learn through failures. Whether I'm playing an video game, making a
video for my media class,or for fun,I am constantly learning new things.
To sum it all up failure is beneficial why? It allows us to learn from our mistakes,
better ourselves, and show us 1,000 ways not to make a light bulb. Without failure there
can be no improvement. With out failure we will fail.
The Magic of Guilt

Posted by DrenchedPryo at 5:55 AM 0 commentsTechnology even though it is fairly recent seems as though it has been around forever. 20 years ago there was no such thing as Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, Myspace or even the Internet. I think this video truly sends out the message of how much we have grown as a society. How much we have changed as a society. I personally think that the world has become a better more "now" kind of world.
I think that teachers can make better use of technology in their class rooms by changing their teaching methods. For example everybody having their own device that the teacher can send notes to instead of the student having to write down all of the notes. Or if the teachers were to all post their homework online and have students do the same so that the students won't have to miss anything if out. These things will benefit me and other students by making school a little less hard and allowing for the participation in class lectures a bit more enjoyable.
